Obamacare Penalty and Minimum Insurance Requirements

Obamacare Penalty and Minimum Insurance Requirements The federal tax penalty for not being enrolled in an Affordable Care Act (ACA)-qualified health insurance plan was eliminated by the Donald Trump administration in 2019. However, persons who received a penalty for not having health insurance in 2018 will still have to pay the penalty on their 2019 tax returns. According to U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the 2018 tax penalty for not having health insurance is $695 for adults and $347.50 for children or 2% of your yearly income, whichever amount is more. While there will no longer be a federal tax penalty for going uninsured or choosing a plan that is not ACA-compliant after the 2019 tax filing season, several states, including New Jersey, Massachusetts, Vermont, and the District of Columbia, have their own health insurance penalties that are assessed when people do not have insurance that complies with that state’s laws. The Now Phased-out Obamacare Tax Penalty By March 31, 2014, almost all Americans who could afford it were required by Obamacare - the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to have a health insurance plan or pay an annual tax penalty. Here is what you need to know about the Obamacare tax penalty and what kind of insurance coverage you need to avoid paying it. Obamacare is complicated. A wrong decision can cost you money. As a result, it is critical that all questions regarding Obamacare be directed to your health care provider, your health insurance plan or to your states Obamacare Health Insurance Marketplace.Questions can also be submitted by calling Healthcare.gov at toll-free 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.During the great Obamacare bill debate, Obamacare supporter Senator Nancy Pelosi (D-California) infamously said lawmakers needed to pass the bill so we can find out whats in it. She was right. Nearly five years after it became law, Obamacare continues to confuse Americans in great numbers. [ Yes, Obamacare Does Apply to Members of Congress ]Â   So complicated is the law, that each of the state Health Insurance Marketplaces will employ Obamacare Navigators to help uninsured people meet their Obamacare obligation by enrolling in the qualified health insurance plan that best meets their medical needs at an affordable cost. Minimum Insurance Coverage Required Whether you have health insurance now or buy it through one of the Obamacare state Insurance Marketplaces, your insurance plan must cover 10 minimum essential health care services. These are: outpatient services; emergency services; hospitalization; maternity/newborn care; mental health and substance abuse services; prescription drugs; rehabilitation (for injuries, disabilities or chronic conditions); lab services; preventive/wellness programs and chronic disease management; and pediatric services. If you have or buy a health plan that does not pay for those minimum essential services it may not qualify as coverage under Obamacare and you may have to pay the penalty. In general, the following types of health care plans will qualify as coverage: Any plan purchased through one of the state Insurance Marketplace and employer-provided insurance plans, including plans for retirees;Medicare and Medicaid;Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP);Military TRICARE;Veterans health care programs; andPeace Corps volunteer plans Other plans may also qualify and all questions regarding minimum coverage and plan qualification should be directed to your states insurance Marketplace Exchange. The Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum Plans Health insurance plans available through all Obamacare state Insurance Marketplace offer four levels of coverage: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. While bronze and silver level plans will have the lowest monthly premium payments, out-of-pocked co-pay costs for things like doctor visits and prescriptions will be higher. Bronze and silver level plans will pay for about 60% to 70% of your medical costs.Gold and platinum plans will have higher monthly premiums, but lower co-pay costs, and will pay for about 80% to 90% of your medical costs.Under Obamacare, you cannot be turned down for health insurance or forced to pay more for it because you have an existing medical condition. In addition, once you have insurance, the plan cannot refuse to cover treatment for your pre-existing conditions. Coverage for pre-existing conditions begins immediately.Once again, it is the job of the Obamacare Navigators to help you select a plan offering the best coverage at a price you can afford.Very Important - Open Enrollment: Each year, there will be an annual open enrollment period after which you will not be able to purchase insurance through the state Insurance Marketplaces until the next annual open enrollment period, unless you have a qualifying life event. For 2014, the open enrollment period is October 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014. For 2015 and later years, the open enrollment period will be October 15 to December 7 of the previous year. Who Does Not Have to Have Insurance? Some people are exempt from the requirement to have health insurance. These are: prison inmates, undocumented immigrants, members of federally-recognized American Indian tribes, persons with religious objections, and low-income persons not required to file federal income tax returns.Religious exemptions include members of health care sharing ministries and members of federally-recognized religious sect with religion-based objections to health insurance. The Penalty: Resistance is Futile and Expensive Attention health insurance procrastinators and resistors: As time goes by, the Obamacare penalty goes up.In 2014, the penalty for not having a qualified health insurance plan is 1% of your annual income or $95 per adult, whichever is higher. Have kids? The penalty for uninsured children in 2014 is $47.50 per child, with a maximum per-family penalty of $285.In 2015, the penalty increases to the higher of 2% of your annual income or $325 per adult.By 2016, the penalty goes up to 2.5% of income or $695 per adult, with a maximum penalty of $2,085 per family. After 2016, the amount of the penalty will be adjusted for inflation. The amount of the annual penalty is based on the number if days or months you go without health insurance after March 31. If you have insurance for part of the year, the penalty will be prorated and if you are covered for at least 9 months during the year, you will not pay a penalty.Along with paying the Obamacare penalty, uninsured persons will continue to be financ ially responsible for 100% of their health care costs. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has estimated that even in 2016, more than 6 million people will pay the government a combined $7 billion in Obamacare fines. Of course, revenue from these fines is essential to paying for many of the free health care services provided for under Obamacare. If You Need Financial Help To help make mandatory health insurance more affordable to people who cant afford it in the first place, the federal government is providing two subsides for qualifying low-income individuals and families. The two subsides are: tax credits, to help pay monthly premiums and cost-sharing to help out-of-pocket expenses. Individuals and families can qualify of either or both subsidies. Some people with very low incomes may wind up paying very small premiums or even no premiums at all.Qualifications for insurance subsidies are based on annual income and vary from state to state. The only way to apply for a subsidy is through one of the state insurance Marketplaces. When you apply for insurance, the Marketplace will help you calculate your modified adjusted gross income and determine of you qualify for a subsidy. The Exchange will also determine if you qualify for Medicare, Medicaid or a state-based health assistance plan.

For marketing purposes, an ebook is a brief book on a specific topic that is available in a downloadable format such as PDF, .mobi (to read on Amazon Kindle), and .epub (to read on Barnes and Noble Nook and other e-readers). These ebooks provide a variety of benefits for marketers, including: Generating subscribers Allowing you to reuse content you’ve previously written Telling a comprehensive story Getting your content on more  channels Ebooks provide something of value for customers while capturing information for the marketers who create them. Why Are Ebooks So Important For Marketers? Ebooks allow marketers to dive into a topic and teach their audience about it. The fact of the matter is blog posts sometimes can't be long enough to cover an entire topic, and if a topic is complicated, it can be challenging to cover in one post. By creating ebooks, marketers can target their audience and build content upgrades  that provide additional value for their readers. By ensuring that value, customers are then willing to share valuable information in return (ie. their email address). 9 Steps To Creating Your Own Ebook Writing an ebook can be easy as long as you plan. Because these books are a bit lengthier than your average blog post, it can be easy to get off track. However, by using this nine-step process, you’ll be able to, as we say at , plan your work, then work your plan. Here's how to create the perfect ebook for your business in nine steps.Step One: Choose Your Topic The first step in creating your ebook is to choose a topic. These topics should be something that your audience wants to learn more about. What questions do they have that you want your ebook to be able to answer? Now, you may already know the topics that your audience is interested in. If you don’t, you can use some necessary SEO keyword research skills to find out what your audience is interested in. So let’s say for example, that your audience is interested in gardening. To find a specific topic that your audience is interested in, open a tool like Moz  or Ahrefs  and type your subject into the search bar: From there, you’ll see a related list of keywords that match the topic you first entered. In the case of our example, our marketer might want to write an ebook on gardening tools, since it appears in list: If you don’t want to use keywords to determine your ebook topics, you could also pose a question to a Facebook group (if your brand has one) and ask what your audience wants to see directly. You could also create a survey using tools like Survey Monkey  or PollDaddy  and send it directly to your audience via email. Some questions you could ask your audience are: What are topics in our [industry] that you would be interested in learning about? What problems are you currently facing? What are the biggest problems your team is facing? Once you have determined what topic you want to cover, record it in your ebook outline template: Recommended Reading: How To Create Content That Ranks For 11,000+ Keywords With Julia McCoy From Express Writers [AMP 057] 4 Simple Brainstorming Techniques That Will Help You Write Killer Content This Is The Best 30-Minute Content Marketing Brainstorming Process Step Two: Create Your Title Once you have your topic decided, you need to figure out what major subtopics you want to cover in your book. These subtopics should help you zero in on the angle you want your ebook to cover. By zeroing in on an angle, you can avoid rambling to fill space. So let’s go back to our gardening example. The angles our example ebook could have may revolve around: Basic gardening tools list Kid-friendly gardening tools Ten types of gardening tools Best gardening tools List out potential angles for your book in your outline template: So for this example, our angle could be how to choose kid-friendly gardening tools. Once you have your angle figured out, you can create your title. Your title should answer a question your audience has about the subject to spark your audience’s  curiosity. Here are five fill-in-the-blank ebook headline templates you can use to get started. How To Do [Subject of ebook] in [Number] of Steps The Ultimate Guide to [Subject of ebook] How To [Subject of ebook] like a pro. The Beginners Guide to [Subject of ebook]. Recommended Reading: Here Are The 101 Catchy Blog Title Formulas That Will Boost Traffic By 438% 43 Data-Driven Headline Ideas From 1,000 Of The Most Popular Posts ’s Headline Analyzer Step Three: Outline Your Chapters And Write Your Headers And Subheaders Once your title is decided,  you can move on to writing your ebook right? Not exactly. Before you jump into filling the pages of your ebook with the information,  outline your chapters and write your subheaders. This is an essential step in your ebook creation process because it will allow you to decide the order you want to share your information in. Plus it can help you avoid rambling. Remember,  this ebook is not your end all be all, magnum opus of your marketing career. Only include as much information as you need to thoroughly teach your reader about a topic. That means your ebook could have three chapters in it or seven. It needs to be as long as it needs to be to cover your topic and angle comprehensively. But no further. This is also why it is so important to have your angle figured out before you start writing. One way to do this is to create a mind map and highlight which portions of a topic you want to cover. Here’s an example of what a mind  map could look like: Let’s say our subtopic was finding the kid-friendly gardening tools for the job. After going through all of our research,  the team decides  this ebook is going to be broken into five  chapters. Our example gardening ebook could have the following chapters: Why having the right tools is so important for kid gardeners. Choosing your kid-friendly planting tools. Choosing your kid-friendly watering tools. Choosing your kid-friendly weeding tools. Choosing your kid-friendly harvesting or collection tools. Fill in your chapter titles in your template: Once you have your chapters outlined,  you can create the headers and subheaders within each one. These headers will help guide your reader and allow them to skim through and find information on the topic they  are looking for. One of our own writers,  Jordan Loftis, suggests creating your headers and subheaders as questions you want to answer in this chapter of your ebook. Now let’s say you don’t know questions your audience may have, how can you figure out what they are? You can send another survey or include questions in your initial survey that ask your audience what they want to learn about your potential ebook topic. Include open-ended questions like: What are five things you’d like to know about [subject]? What information do you need in order to solve [problem]? What do you already know about [subject]? Where have you already looked for information on [subject]? In the first chapter of our gardening ebook, some example header and subheader questions that your audience may want answers to could be: What types of kids gardening tools are there? What is a list of gardening tools that are safe for my kids? Where can I find the best gardening tools for my kids? How can I tell what a good tool for young children is vs. a bad one? What is the proper way to organize and store my kids tools so they last? Take those questions and format them into statements that become your headers. Once you have your chapters and headers worked out, you can transfer them into one of the ebook templates you downloaded earlier. Step Four: Write Each Chapter Now that you have your outline, you can start writing. For some, this can be nerve-wracking and cause writers to stare at a blinking cursor for hours on end, but not you. You have your outline to follow, so you know exactly what you want to write about. Even though your chapters and headers are in statement form, use the question-style headers you came up with earlier to guide your writing. Think of it like interviewing yourself; your reader has a question, and you are the expert with all the knowledge they need. As a blog writer, I find that writing for shorter periods of time helps me knock out blog posts as quickly as possible. So as you write  your ebook, try the following: Find someplace quiet. Turn off your phone. Turn off your computer notifications. Grab a glass of water. If you want to listen to music, try something without words. (Spotify’s Deep Focus playlist is a great option). At this point, you could also recycle your blog posts  and use that information in your ebook. Once you’re ready, add your written content to your ebook template. Once your chapters are written (but not edited), you can move on to drafting your foreword, introduction, and conclusion. Your foreword should explain to your reader why they would want to read this ebook. It should answer the question,  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Why should I (an audience member) read this book? What’s in it for me?† For our gardening ebook example, the foreword would address how we always want kids to be able to help in the garden but sometimes they can cause a mess instead of being helpful. The benefit to them is that they will be able to find the right tools to choose for their kids. Your introduction should summarize what they are going to learn reading this ebook. You should explain to your audience what they are going to learn and why they should care. In our example, this book will teach readers how to choose the right tools that will allow their kids to learn about gardening, but not cause a giant mess in the process. And your conclusion should summarize what they have learned from reading this ebook.  It should tell your reader what they’ve learned and how this will benefit them. At the end of our example gardening book, they should know what tools are great for kids who want to garden and how to properly store them to get as much use out of them as possible. Step Five: Edit and Format Your Ebook At this point, you should have a rough draft of your ebook template. Now you need to edit your draft. There are two steps to your editing process. The first one is editing for spelling and grammar. This is the point where you need to make sure you used the proper form of there  vs. they are  or that you added commas in the right places. Editing tools like Grammarly  or Hemmingway  may help you out here, but don’t solely rely on them to catch every error. Nothing beats a set of human eyes reviewing your content. Once your spelling and grammar check is complete, you can move on to line editing your ebook. Line editing is the process that allows you to ensure that your content is easy to read and you’ve thoroughly covered your topic. Taking a break in between your spelling and grammar check before you read your ebook is essential. You can line edit by reading your ebook draft line for line, or you can read it out loud. When you’ve completed your line edits and you know your content is error-free, you can move on to formatting the text in your ebook. Catherine Howard suggests  you do three things when formatting your ebook: Forget about page numbers. Remove all your indents or tabs. Avoid having a three or four line gap between your writing. The last step in your editing and formatting process is to call out quotes and statistics that you want to call to your reader’s attention. You can do this by blocking the text or changing the color: It’s important to remember that ebooks are displayed across a variety of different formats (PDF, .mobi, and .epub, for example) which means that how the book looks will be different in each one. Best practice here suggests writing your ebook in Microsoft Word and use word styles. This video walks you through how to format your ebook: If you choose to format your ebook for formats beyond the traditional PDF (which you can export from your Word ebook template that complements this blog post), the free tool Calibre will help you export your Word file into .mobi and .epub. This post  walks you through that process step by step. If you choose to do this, you may opt to provide your subscribers all three versions in a zip file so they can choose their optimal reading experience (PDF, Kindle, or Nook). Step Six: Create Graphics And Other Design Elements The next step in your process is to create any graphics or other design elements that you want to add to your ebook. Remember that graphics should not be added to your ebook at random;  they should always be used to enhance your readers understanding of the concept. If you don’t have a designer at hand,  tools like Canva  or Piktochart  can be a great place to create your graphics. If you just want to add images to your ebook, sites like Unsplash  or Stocksnap.io  are great places to find free stock photographs. Once you have graphics designed, you can add them to your ebook. You don’t have to host your ebook on a landing page, but it can be a great place to direct your audience with little effort. Plus, you don’t have to worry about your ebook becoming buried in an out-of-date blog post. As a marketer, building a landing page can get complicated, especially if you don’t know how to code. That’s why tools like Unbounce  or LeadPages  are great options that allow marketers to easily create their own landing pages without knowing directly how to code. Just start on a site and choose a template to build from. Both LeadPages  and Unbounce  have models created explicitly for ebooks. These tools also help you host the ebook file itself, so once a subscriber gives you their email address, the page will automatically deliver the ebook. Simply select your template and start designing. Then follow the instructions from the respective tool to launch your landing page. Once your landing page is complete, it should look something like this: Some tips to keep in mind as you draft copy for the ebook landing page: Look to the information in your foreword for inspiration. Your goal is to convince visitors they need the ebook to solve a specific pain†¦ and to solve that pain, they simply need to give you their email address. Make them feel like they’re missing out if they don’t download the ebook. Others who downloaded the ebook already have experienced amazing results because of it†¦ right? Include testimonials, write copy that appeals to the fear of missing out, and reiterate that their life could be so much better if they simply downloaded the ebook. Recommended Reading: How to Write Landing Pages That Will Boost Your Conversions Step Eight: Add Calls To Action  Into Your Landing Page Once you have your book formatted and your landing page built, you can move on to adding your CTAs (call to action). The primary purpose of creating your ebook is to generate subscribers,  so you want as many people as possible to download your book. Creating the right CTA is essential to making that happen. CTAs should ask your reader to do something: Writing a great CTA is easy, you just need to tell your audience what they are going to get in exchange. According to Crazy Egg, there are six characteristics of a high-performing CTA button. They are: That your CTA is a clickable button. They have a compelling copy that takes action-oriented approach. They are placed logically on your page. They are a contrasting color from your page. They are close to the previous action your customer has taken. I.e., if they filled out a form, the CTA button would be right underneath it. They don’t compete with other things on your web page. Here are 54 words and phrases you can use in your CTAs: You can even create multiple CTAs, and A/B test  (which both Leadpages and Unbounce allow you to do) them to find which ones work best for your audience. Recommended Reading: How To Write A Call To Action In A Template With 6 Examples Step Nine: Promote Your Ebook The last step in your ebook creation process should be to promote it. The likelihood of someone randomly stumbling on to your landing page and finding your ebook is a little too close to the â€Å"hope is a strategy† approach,  so you need to give it a boost. There are a few different ways you can do this. Email Campaigns One way that you can promote your ebook is through an email campaign. Set up a series of emails that go out to your general list or a list of people who you think would be interested in downloading your ebook. You can add tracking links (via bit.ly) that lead to your landing page so you can see how many of your email subscribers have clicked the link and downloaded your ebook. However, you can create the most compelling copy in the world but that won’t mean anything if your audience doesn’t see it. Which is why you need to send your email at the best time. Once your email is sent, track opens, clicks to your links as well as downloads of your ebook. Your email tracking data should be stored within your email service provider. For a project of this magnitude, ’s Head of Marketing Demand Generation, Nathan Ellering, suggests sending at least three emails to your existing subscribers over the course of three weeks. Social Media Campaigns Another way to promote your ebook to your followers is through a social media campaign. Social campaigns are an easy way to promote your content directly to your audience. Recommended Reading: What Are Good Email Click-Through Rates? We Share Our Data With You. The Complete, 4-Step Email List Building Strategy That Will Make You Successful Create a specific CTA for your emails and draft your content ahead of time. Mom's on Facebook Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Mom's on Facebook - Essay Example However, one cannot diminish the fact that these social networking websites have caused an up rise over security flaws that have plagues the creation of the networking websites. Facebook privacy breaches have without a doubt become a nightmare for its users. The social networking website has come under heavy fire for the lack of security options it offers its users. The issue at hand has become out of control as privacy regulators have called for the government to intervene in this issue. The privacy problems continue to accumulate as Mark Zuckerberg continues to make this website more public to its users. Instead of limiting controls, Facebook has become notorious for developing more tools that hinder privacy. The privacy issue continues to haunt the users as many have been victims of ID theft, fraud, and email scams. Facebook application administrators even admit that there are privacy issues concerning this networking website. Many reports have confirmed that many Facebook applica tions are a threat since they share data with other advertisers. Without a doubt, Facebook security is not safe because of enhanced features, information sharing, lack of filters, and creates bias for employees.employees. One of the main issues discussed in the video that relates to the idea of Facebook security is the fact that it allows individuals to intrude into others easily. In this particular video, the mother was able to reply to any posts that her son made. Furthermore, the mother in this case can see the pictures of other individuals who are not aware that someone is viewing their pictures. Clearly, these lays foundation for people to cyber stalk individuals who they find attractive. Moreover, one cannot diminish the fact that users are allowed to look at every content that individuals post on Facebook. Majority of the users are unaware of the privacy settings in their own Facebook. Facebook security in essence lacks the criteria of allowing individuals to practice privacy which is essential in the fast technological era we reside in. From my perspective, clearly Facebook lacks quality assurance of security that it needs to implement to assure its users that they won’t be victims of cyber stalking. Furthermore, Facebook should implement rules that ask consent of individuals whose images are uploaded in their friend’s webpages. Although this seems as a hefty effort, one cannot diminish the true essence and the importance of it. Securing images of others can truly diminish stalking and other illicit relationships that are based upon lust. Another reason why I think Facebook is dangerous a social utility tool is due to the fact that it lacks the necessary security protocols to protect its users. In a high technological world, networking has become a very easy concept. Facebook allows individuals to display their personal information, â€Å"poke† others, tag friends, â€Å"like’ statuses. Although these features might seem ha rmless, one cannot diminish the fact that it creates a foundation of much more interaction to come. A mysterious â€Å"poke† from another individual can be a gateway towards being more than â€Å"just friends.† This could be extremely dangerous especially for young teenagers, who are just amazed by the powerful features of the social utilities that are present in Facebook. Many teenagers tend to upload many pictures and share their interests, information, hobbies, and other personal information that others can view. This could be detrimental as many stalkers and child abusers take advantage of these resources to intimate contact with these children. One of the groups in Facebook is known as â€Å"You have poked me, I am assuming you are DTF?.† These absurd concepts are not humorous but unfortunately reality. Many Facebook users admit that

Therapeutic Communication Essay Example for Free

Therapeutic Communication Essay The medical dictionary describes a therapeutic communication as â€Å"A process in which the nurse consciously influences a client or helps the client to a better understanding through verbal or nonverbal communication†. This communication summary will describe an event which occurred on a work placement in practise. A reflective frame work will be used to evaluate the interaction; Gibb’s reflective model will be used within the essay. hilst on placement with the district nurse we received a call from a patient informing us that her leg was not â€Å"quite right†, as she has problems with her eye sight she wasn’t able to give us a description on what state her leg was in. I went out and discovered when observing that this patient had leg ulceration which was on both sides of her left leg. I questioned descriptively to see how long she was feeling uncomfortable, she reported that it was over two months; this enabled me to place the event in time and helped me to gain a visual picture of the circumstances. I encouraged description of events by asking the patient how it went on noticed as she has carers visiting her twice a day to apply creams. It happened as a result in the carers having communication issues as they did not report changes on the breakdown of the patient’s skin. Whilst focusing on the wound I decided the appropriate form of intervention would be compression bandages. The patient was reluctant to have a bandage applied to her leg although I empathised with the patient by informing them what would happen if the appropriate bandage was not applied and that it was the only possible way of getting it to heal properly. At the time I was thinking that the patient was not informing me properly and felt they were not telling me the full story of how the wound got to the stage it has. The fact that I got information from the patient was good as I was able to see how they felt and what appropriate measures had to be taken. The bad part of the experience was that the patient seemed reluctant to give me information as she didn’t want the wound to appear as bad and she was trying to avoid bandages being applied to her legs. I realised that the situation was not managed well, and that if there was no communication issues between the carers and the district nurse the situation would have been avoided. I could have asked a lot more closed questions and kept open questions to a minimal to gather specific information. I also could have reassured the patient a lot more by telling them that the decision of using compression bandages and explained the purpose of using compression, and explained how this would make a huge different to the wound in a short period of time. If the situation was to rise again I would approach it a lot more sensitively and I would try and gather more information by firstly gaining a better rapport with the patient, then asking open questions to gather a wider amount of information, then to gain specific information I would ask closed questions. This will allow me to get all the information I need and at the same time the patient will be more relaxed and comfortable with the decision and outcome.

Abortion Should Be Illegal Essay -- Persuasive Essay

Around the world many women are receiving abortions legally and illegally. I believe receiving abortions should be against the law, with the exception of rape and incest. Taking the life of an unborn human being is not only cruel but wrong. The decision of taking another human beings life should not lie in our hands. In every society whether it was legal or legal, abortions were used to control fertility. In the United States it was practiced legally until about 1880, by then most states had banned it except to save a woman's life. It was widely practiced through the entire period it was illegal. In the 1890’s there were an estimate of two million abortions per year and, one to two million annually during the 1920’s-30’s. Whether a woman could receive an abortion was based upon her economic situation, race, and where she lived. Women with money could leave the country and find pricey doctors but, poor women who had no money to leave and get one would preform self abortions. Either inserting knitting needles or coat hangers into the uterus and vagina, douching with dangerous solutions such as lye, or swallowing strong drugs and chemicals. Several hundred thousand women were treated for health complications due to botched, unsanitary, or self-induced abortions. The laws prohibi ting abortions took a heavy toll on women’s lives and health. Scholars estimated that approximately five thousand woman had died in the U.S because of unsafe abortions. World wide unintended, mistimed, and unwanted pregnancies are faced by all women in every country and all cultures. Some 20-30 million legal abortions are preformed each year, and another 10-20 million that are preformed illegally. Globally an estimate of 46 million abortions occur each y... ... minors seek parental consent or that a parent is notified in advanced of a minor having an abortion. As of 2015, 35 states require that there is some sort of parental involvement with a minor receiving an abortion. 22 states only require parental consent, eleven states only require parental notification, and only two states require parental consent and notification. There are mandatory periods that the woman wanting to get an abortion must receive specific information about the pregnancy and alternatives first. Foundation and Empire 8. To Trantor

Devers bent over the little dead globe, watching for a tiny sign of life. The directional control was slowly and thoroughly sieving space with its jabbing tight sheaf of signals. Barr watched patiently from his seat on the low cot in the comer, He asked, â€Å"No more signs of them?† â€Å"The Empire boys? No.† The trader growled the words with evident impatience. â€Å"We lost the scuppers long ago. Space! With the blind jumps we took through hyperspace, it's lucky we didn't land up in a sun's belly. They couldn't have followed us even if they outranged us, which they didn't.† He sat back and loosened his collar with a jerk. â€Å"I don't know what those Empire boys have done here. I think some of the gaps are out of alignment.† â€Å"I take it, then, you're trying to get to the Foundation.† â€Å"I'm calling the Association – or trying to.† â€Å"The Association? Who are they?† â€Å"Association of Independent Traders. Never heard of it, huh? Well, you're not alone. We haven't made our splash yet!† For a while there was a silence that centered about the unresponsive Reception Indicator, and Barr said, â€Å"Are you within range?† â€Å"I don't know. I haven't but a small notion where we are, going by dead reckoning. That's why I have to use directional control. It could take years, you know.† â€Å"Might it?† Barr pointed; and Devers jumped and adjusted his earphones. Within the little murky sphere there was a tiny glowing whiteness. For half an hour, Devers nursed the fragile, groping thread of communication that reached through hyperspace to connect two points that laggard light would take five hundred years to bind together. Then he sat back, hopelessly. He looked up, and shoved the earphones back. â€Å"Let's eat, doc. There's a needle-shower you can use if you want to, but go easy on the hot water.† He squatted before one of the cabinets that lined one wall and felt through the contents. â€Å"You're not a vegetarian, I hope?† Barr said, â€Å"I'm omnivorous. But what about the Association. Have you lost them?† â€Å"Looks so. It was extreme range, a little too extreme. Doesn't matter, though. I got all that counted.† He straightened, and placed the two metal containers upon the table. â€Å"Just give it five minutes, doc, then slit it open by pushing the contact. It'll be plate, food, and fork – sort of handy for when you're in a hurry, if you're not interested in such incidentals as napkins. I suppose you want to know what I got out of the Association.† â€Å"If it isn't a secret.† Devers shook his head. â€Å"Not to you. What Riose said was true.† â€Å"About the offer of tribute?† â€Å"Uh-huh. They offered it, and had it refused. Things are bad. There's fighting in the outer suns of Loris.† â€Å"Loris is close to the Foundation?† â€Å"Huh? Oh, you wouldn't know. It's one of the original Four Kingdoms. You might call it part of the inner line of defense. That's not the worst. They've been fighting large ships previously never encountered. Which means Riose wasn't giving us the works. He has received more ships. Brodrig has switched sides, and I have messed things up.† His eyes were bleak as he joined the food-container contact-points and watched it fall open neatly. The stewlike dish steamed its aroma through the room. Ducem Barr was already eating. â€Å"So much,† said Barr, â€Å"for improvisations, then. We can do nothing here; we can not cut through the Imperial lines to return to the Foundation; we can do nothing but that which is most sensible – to wait patiently. However, if Riose has reached the inner line I trust the wait will not be too long.† And Devers put down his fork. â€Å"Wait, is it?† he snarled, glowering. â€Å"That's all right for you. You've got nothing at stake.† â€Å"Haven't I?† Barr smiled thinly. â€Å"No. In fact, I'll tell you.† Devers' irritation skimmed the surface. â€Å"I'm tired of looking at this whole business as if it were an interesting something-or-other on a microscope slide. I've got friends somewhere out there, dying; and a whole world out there, my home, dying also. You're an outsider. You don't know.† â€Å"I have seen friends die.† The old man's hands were limp in his lap and his eyes were closed. â€Å"Are you married?† Devers said, â€Å"Traders don't marry.† â€Å"Well, I have two sons and a nephew. They have been warned, but – for reasons – they could take no action. Our escape means their death. My daughter and my two grandchildren have, I hope, left the planet safety before this, but even excluding them, I have already risked and lost more than you.† Devers was morosely savage. â€Å"I know. But that was a matter of choice. You might have played ball with Riose. I never asked you to-â€Å" Barr shook his head. â€Å"It was not a matter of choice, Devers. Make your conscience free, I didn't risk my sons for you. I co-operated with Riose as long as I dared. But there was the Psychic Probe.† The Siwennian patrician opened his eyes and they were sharp with pain. â€Å"Riose came to me once; it was over a year ago. He spoke of a cult centering about the magicians, but missed the truth. It is not quite a cult. You see, it is forty years now that Siwenna has been gripped in the same unbearable vise that threatens your world. Five revolts have been ground out. Then I discovered the ancient records of Hari Seldon – and now this ‘cult' waits. â€Å"It waits for the coming of the ‘magicians' and for that day it is ready. My sons are leaders of those who wait. It is that secret which is in my mind and which the Probe must never touch. And so they must die as hostages; for the alternative is their death as rebels and half of Siwenna with them. You see, I had no choice! And I am no outsider.† Devers' eyes fell, and Barr continued softly, â€Å"It is on a Foundation victory that Siwenna's hopes depend. It is for a Foundation victory that my sons are sacrificed. And Hari Seldon does not pre-calculate the inevitable salvation of Siwenna as he does that of the Foundation. I have no certainty for my people – only hope.† â€Å"But you are still satisfied to wait. Even with the Imperial Navy at Loris.† â€Å"I would wait, in perfect confidence,† said Barr, simply, â€Å"if they had landed on the planet, Terminus, itself.† The trader frowned hopelessly. â€Å"I don't know. It can't really work like that; not just like magic. Psychohistory or not, they're terribly strong, and we're weak. What can Setdon do about it?† â€Å"There's nothing to do. It's all already done. It's proceeding now. Because you don't hear the wheels turning and the gongs beating doesn't mean it's any the less certain.† â€Å"Maybe; but I wish you had cracked Riose's skull for keeps. He's more the enemy than all his army.† â€Å"Cracked his skull? With Brodrig his second in command?† Barr's face sharpened with hate. â€Å"All Siwenna would have been my hostage. Brodrig has proven his worth long since. There exists a world which five years ago lost one male in every ten – and simply for failure to meet outstanding taxes. This same Brodrig was the tax-collector. No, Riose may live. His punishments are mercy in comparison.† â€Å"But six months, six months, in the enemy Base, with nothing to show for it.† Devers' strong hands clasped each other tautly, so that his knuckles cracked. â€Å"Nothing to show for it!† â€Å"Well, now, wait. You remind me-† Barr fumbled in his pouch. â€Å"You might want to count this.† And he tossed the small sphere of metal on the table. Devers snatched it. â€Å"What is it?† â€Å"The message capsule. The one that Riose received just before I jacked him. Does that count as something?† â€Å"I don't know. Depends on what's in it!† Devers sat down and turned it over carefully in his hand. When Barr stepped from his cold shower and, gratefully, into the mild warm current of the air dryer, he found Devers silent and absorbed at the workbench. The Siwennian slapped his body with a sharp rhythm and spoke above the punctuating sounds. â€Å"What are you doing?† Devers looked up. Droplets of perspiration glittered in his beard. â€Å"I'm going to open this capsule.† â€Å"Can you open it without Riose's personal characteristic?† There was mild surprise in the Siwennian's voice. â€Å"If I can't, I'll resign from the Association and never skipper a ship for what's left of my life. I've got a three-way electronic analysis of the interior now, and I've got little jiggers that the Empire never heard of, especially made for jimmying capsules. I've been a burglar before this, y'know. A trader has to be something of everything.† He bent low over the little sphere, and a small flat instrument probed delicately and sparked redly at each fleeting contact. He said, â€Å"This capsule is a crude job, anyway. These Imperial boys are no shakes at this small work. I can see that. Ever see a Foundation capsule? It's half the size and impervious to electronic analysis in the first place.† And then he was rigid, the shoulder muscles beneath his tunic tautening visibly. His tiny probe pressed slowly- It was noiseless when it came, but Devers; relaxed and sighed. In his hand was the shining sphere with its message unrolled like a parchment tongue. â€Å"It's from Brodrig,† he said. Then, with contempt, â€Å"The message medium is permanent. In a Foundation capsule, the message would be oxidized to gas within the minute.† But Ducem Barr waved him silent. He read the message quickly. FROM: AMMEL BRODRIG, ENVOY EXTRAORDINARY OF HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, PRIVY SECRETARY OF THE COUNCIL, AND PEER OF THE REALM. TO: BEL RIOSE, MILITARY GOVERNOR OF SIWENNA. GENERAL OF THE IMPERIAL FORCES, AND PEER OF THE REALM. I GREET YOU. PLANET #1120 NO LONGER RESISTS. THE PLANS OF OFFENSE AS OUTLINED CONTINUE SMOOTHLY. THE ENEMY WEAKENS VISIBLY AND THE ULTIMATE ENDS IN VIEW WILL SURELY BE GAINED. Barr raised his head from the almost microscopic print and cried bitterly, â€Å"The fool! The forsaken blasted fop! That a message?† â€Å"Huh?† said Devers. He was vaguely disappointed. â€Å"It says nothing,† ground out Barr. â€Å"Our lick-spittle courtier is playing at general now. With Riose away, he is the field commander and must sooth his paltry spirit by spewing out his pompous reports concerning military affairs he has nothing to do with. ‘So-and-so planet no longer resists.' ‘The offensive moves on.' ‘The enemy weakens.' The vacuum-headed peacock.† â€Å"Well, now, wait a minute. Hold on-â€Å" â€Å"Throw it away.† The old man turned away in mortification. â€Å"The Galaxy knows I never expected it to be world-shakingly important, but in wartime it is reasonable to assume that even the most routine order left undelivered might hamper military movements and lead to complications later. It's why I snatched it. But this! Better to have left it. It would have wasted a minute of Riose's time that will now be put to more constructive use.† But Devers had arisen. â€Å"Will you hold on and stop throwing your weight around? For Seldon's sake-â€Å" He held out the sliver of message before Barr's nose, â€Å"Now read that again. What does he mean by ‘ultimate ends in view'?† â€Å"The conquest of the Foundation. Well?† â€Å"Yes? And maybe he means the conquest of the Empire. You know he believes that to be the ultimate end.† â€Å"And if he does?† â€Å"If he does!† Devers' one-sided smile was lost in his beard. â€Å"Why, watch then, and I'll show you.† With one finger the lavishly monogrammed sheet of message-parchment was thrust back into its slot. With a soft twang, it disappeared and the globe was a smooth, unbroken whole again. Somewhere inside was the tiny oiled whir of the controls as they lost their setting by random movements. â€Å"Now there is no known way of opening this capsule without knowledge of Riose's personal characteristic, is there?† â€Å"To the Empire, no,† said Barr. â€Å"Then the evidence it contains is unknown to us and absolutely authentic.† â€Å"To the Empire, yes,† said Barr. â€Å"And the Emperor can open it, can't he? Personal Characteristics of Government officials must be on file. We keep records of our officials at the Foundation.† â€Å"At the Imperial capital as well,† agreed Barr. â€Å"Then when you, a Siwennian patrician and Peer of the Realm, tell this Cleon, this Emperor, that his favorite tame-parrot and his shiniest general are getting together to knock him over, and hand him the capsule as evidence, what will he think Brodrig's ‘ultimate ends' are?† Barr sat down weakly. â€Å"Wait, I don't follow you.† He stroked one thin cheek, and said, â€Å"You're not really serious, are you?† â€Å"I am.† Devers was angrily excited. â€Å"Listen, nine out of the last ten Emperors got their throats cut, or their gizzards blasted out by one or another of their generals with bigtime notions in their heads. You told me that yourself more than once. Old man Emperor would believe us so fast it would make Riose's head swim.† Barr muttered feebly, â€Å"He is serious, For the Galaxy's sake, man, you can't beat a Seldon crisis by a far-fetched, impractical, storybook scheme like that. Suppose you had never got hold of the capsule. Suppose Brodrig hadn't used the word ‘ultimate.' Seldon doesn't depend on wild luck.† â€Å"If wild luck comes our way, there's no law says Seldon can't take advantage of it.† â€Å"Certainly. But†¦ but,† Barr stopped, then spoke calmly but with visible restraint. â€Å"Look, in the first place, how will you get to the planet Trantor? You don't know its location in space, and I certainly don't remember the co-ordinates, to say nothing of the ephemerae. You don't even know your own position in space.† â€Å"You can't get lost in space,† grinned Devers. He was at the controls already. â€Å"Down we go to the nearest planet, and back we come with complete bearings and the best navigation charts Brodrig's hundred thousand smackers can buy.† â€Å"And a blaster in our belly. Our descriptions are probably in every planet in this quarter of the Empire.† â€Å"Doc,† said Devers, patiently, â€Å"don't be a hick tom the sticks. Riose said my ship surrendered too easily and, brother, he wasn't kidding. This ship has enough fire-power and enough juice in its shield to hold off anything we're Rely to meet this deep inside the frontier. And we have personal shields, too. The Empire boys never found them, you know, but they weren't meant to be found.† â€Å"All fight,† said Barr, â€Å"all right. Suppose yourself on Trantor. How do you see the Emperor then? You think he keeps office hours?† â€Å"Suppose we worry about that on Trantor,† said Devers. And Barr muttered helplessly, â€Å"All right again. I've wanted to see Trantor before I die for half a century now. Have your way.† The hypernuclear motor was cut in. The lights flickered and there was the slight internal wrench that marked the shift into hyperspace.

Teacher Who Influential Your Life

The person who influential me to become a better writer was my sixth grade English teacher Ms. Campbell. Ms. Campbell was not a normal English teacher. She taught us many writing technique that I still use today. I remember this one day in English class; Ms. Campbell was teaching us the fan boys out of no where she started rapping the fan boys. Still to this day I can remember the rap that she taught us. Ms Campbell had different ways of each us. Ms. Campbell would suck your right in she made us think out of the box. Also, Ms. Campbell had this way to make writing exciting, and that you cannot live without writing. There never was a day that was not interesting in English class. Ms. Campbell was the one who inspired me to write everyday. She would always tell her students â€Å"when you have bad days write about it. † Ms. Campbell was one of the reasons why I wanted to become a writer. She had a way of make me feel that I can become anything. Ms. Campbell would teach us how to write complete sentence. Everything Ms. Campbell taught us she made it into a rap song. We would help her put the rap together. I remember Ms. Campbell was in front of the class we were learning about the writing process. Ms. Campbell went to her desk, and said whoever the first person to say what the steps of the writing process are would get this big chocolate candy bar. I never had seen so many hands go up so fast. Even through no one know the step of the writing process Ms. Campbell gave everyone candy. Ms Campbell never gave up on her students she always pushes us to finish what we started. There were so many things that I learned from Ms. Campbell, but this lesson I will never forget. The lesson was an essay question was what do you want to be when you get older? Ms. Campbell made us write whole paper about the topic, and then made us share with the class. After, that Ms. Campbell hangs them all over the class to see how other students write. Another lesson Ms. Campbell taught me was remember that everyone have different writing from each other all writes have different stories. Ms. Campbell had these little riddles fro example, sticks, and stone might break my bones, but words do hurt. Ms. Campbell had all these different sang for every problem. One of my favorite lessons that Ms. Campbell taught me was independent clause. We would sing it to Aretha Franklin song RESPECT. Another, favorite lesson that she taught me was run-on sentence and fragments. When Ms. Campbell taught us run on sentences her example was talking with out stopping. Then her other example with fragments she would write a fragment on the board and ask us is this complete sentence. Another, lesson that Ms. Campbell taught us was about transition words she had a rap for transition words too. Ms. Campbell is not normal English teacher she had this spark about teaching us about writing process, fanboys, run on sentence, fragments, independents clauses, dependent clause, and transition words. Everyday I could not wait for the bell to ring to go to Ms. Campbell English class room 106. Ms. Campbell never lost faith in her students she always had faith in her students. She always gives us good feed back. Ms. Campbell made writing exciting. Ms. Campbell lesson stayed with me. For example, fanboys rap, writing process, independent clause song, and last but not least comma rules. Ms. Campbell was an amazing English teacher she taught me so much. That I’ll never forget what an amazing teacher Ms. Campbell was.

Proper Parallel Construction of Sentences with Not, Neither, and No Longer

Proper Parallel Construction of Sentences with Not, Neither, and No Longer Proper Parallel Construction of Sentences with Not, Neither, and No Longer Proper Parallel Construction of Sentences with Not, Neither, and No Longer By Mark Nichol When writing sentences in which a comparison is made with not, neither, or â€Å"no longer† as the focus of the contrast, be vigilant about achieving logical parallel structure, as discussed and demonstrated in the explanations about and revisions to the following examples. 1. Becoming a better parent is not about becoming a different person, but doing what it takes to do less of the behavior that is not true to who you are. When the contrasting word or phrase (in this case, not) is associated with the preposition about, which is often the case, if not precedes about at the beginning of a point, about must be repeated at the beginning of the counterpoint: â€Å"Becoming a better parent is not about becoming a different person but about doing what it takes to do less of the behavior that is not true to who you are† (a â€Å"not about [this] but about [that]† construction). Alternatively, precede not with about for a â€Å"about not (this) but (that)† construction: â€Å"Becoming a better parent is about not becoming a different person, but doing what it takes to do less of the behavior that is not true to who you are.† 2. This publication is neither intended to be a legal analysis nor a detailed cookbook of steps to take in every situation. In a neither/nor construction such as this one, when the key verb (here, intended) applies to nor as well as to neither, the word must precede the first word as well as the second: â€Å"This publication is intended to be neither a legal analysis nor a detailed cookbook of steps to take in every situation.† Alternatively, revise the sentence to hinge on not and or rather than neither and nor: â€Å"This publication is not intended to be a legal analysis or a detailed cookbook of steps to take in every situation.† 3. Compliance is no longer viewed primarily as a legal risk to be avoided, but rather an operational one to be monitored. Similarly, when employing â€Å"no longer† to compare a previous state with a current one, make sure that the verb or verb phrase before â€Å"no longer† is located so that the verb applies both to that phrase and to the concluding part of the sentence describing the current state: â€Å"Compliance is primarily viewed no longer as a legal risk to be avoided, but rather as an operational one to be monitored.† Alternatively, convert the second half of the sentence to an independent clause by inserting a verb: â€Å"Compliance is no longer viewed primarily as a legal risk to be avoided; rather, it is an operational one to be monitored.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? The Main Selling Point of Globalization and E-Commerce Research Paper

The Main Selling Point of Globalization and E-Commerce - Research Paper Example Among all the developments today in globalization, it is the explosion of retail channels that are fueling the most excitement. The idea of being able to sell to the whole world is the main selling point of globalization and e-commerce however retailers are now realizing the constraints of these expanded channels. With the deluge of buyers and the stress on the company’s selling infrastructure, there is a need to evaluate and redevelop retail management policies. Fashion retailing whether online or not and whether selling globally or not are among the industries that need to asses its position and strategies. Since the industry usually entails actual perusal of the product, sellers need to communicate on a personal level with its buyers. Since the selling strategy targets this level of appeal, companies need to realize that they need to understand better who they are selling to culturally and psychologically stay competitive (Johansson, 2001). According to Perner (2004), "A le arned, shared, compelling, interrelated set of orientations for members of society". Culture influences goals, beliefs, attitudes and values and ultimately buying behaviour. In the development of the essential strategies for competing effectively in today’s globalized retail markets, it can be concluded that several factors are essential to success. Among them are extensive and relevant market research, responsive and sensitive marketing strategies, focus and creativity to execute plans and strategies, attentiveness changes in society and the social and political environment, flexibility to cope with the critical situation effectively and efficiently.
